It’s my Friday!

I’m already heading into my weekend! I am loving my work schedule. And work is getting more challenging. I have some big projects and responsibilities that’ll make my 5 hour shifts fly by. Still lovin it though! 🙂  And getting more and more into my training program. I’ve been to 3 spin classes now and am feeling a little better each time. I think my swim technique is still improving… which is good because I’ve sort of booked myself for a 2.4 mile swim on the morning of my 30th birthday. So I need to spend lots of time in the pool or lake between now and then!

Here are a few pictures of our yard after we did some weeding/trimming on Monday:

Memorial weekend

I am having yet ANOTHER fantastic weekend! Saturday morning was a Team bike ride around Mercer Island. 13.77 miles on beautiful, curvy roads. We had lunch afterwards with a bunch of teammates. In the evening we had dinner at a friends home who we haven’t really seen in a while. Their 7 month old daughter was a cutey. Today we had breakfast with another friend in the neighborhood (walking close to a mile each way) and then I went for a 4 mile walk and lunch with a girlfriend. Lots of socializing… and walking… and eating.   🙂

I have to admit I’ve really dropped the ball with cooking at home this weekend. We had dinner out at a local Chinese place that gets amazing reviews. The food was delicious but I didn’t love the environment (the smell of cleaning chemicals overpowered me from the second I walked in, and the phone ringing on high volume every few minutes got really annoying). We ate ’til we were over full and still have TWO meals for tomorrow! So three meals out in one day… ah well, I had a really nice time. And at least I walked about 5 and a half miles today.

Tomorrow Yancy will be home and we have no official plans. Hopefully we’ll get some work done in the yard… feels so weird to say that! Anyways, we apparently have nightshade all over the place and dandelions needing to be pulled. And our neighbor told us we need to “partially expose the tubers” of the iris flowers. Our little yard is really cool, but could look a lot better with a little love.

Here’s a few pictures from the week (you can tell I’m kind of in love with our new neighborhood):

Getting better

It’s been a nice week. We’re officially done moving into the new place. But it’s taking time getting use to the new routine with our work schedules and triathlon training. I did spin class again last night and had a MUCH better experience. Kinda felt like I was going to throw up because I overheated, but really liked the instructor, brought proper shoes, and am starting to feel a little more fit…. all adding up to a more fun class.

Last weekend I got my hair recolored… purple again.  🙂 It had faded quite drastically in the last week. The purple color is such a pain for upkeep that I might not do it again next time. On Saturday we had our first Team bike practice, 10 miles on Lake Washington. The weather was beautiful and I had a great time! It was a pleasant surprise to feel so comfortable on the bike after the rough week I had with exercise. Plus I’m pretty sure I haven’t been on the bike since July of last year! Swim practice this week also felt better. My form has broken down without practice, but the coach is giving me lots of feed back and I can already feel myself getting faster. 🙂  On Monday and Friday mornings I’m walking with my friend Stephanie in our neighborhood… which means lots of hills. Seriously feeling better after a week of increasing my exercise! Tonight I’m heading to run practice at the track. They have a really nice soft running surface. Just hope my legs have had enough time to recover after last night’s spin class!

Here are a few pictures from the last week:

Having a great week

We’re back into full blown triathlon training season! Monday night we had our first team swim practice… where I was surprised at how much fitness I’ve lost. Got bumped down to a slower a lane, but it’s all good. I’ll get better with some practice, it’s been something like 2 months since I swam. Tuesday morning I had an 8am appointment for a free intro session with a personal trainer at LA Fitness… he no-showed on me. I had wanted to check out the spin class which started at 9:15, so to pass some time I did half of the yoga class. And that was another harsh reminder of how out of shape I am. Couldn’t hold some of the poses I used to and certainly have lost some flexibility. To be honest, about 15 minutes in I started watching the clock and longing to escape (had told the instructor I’d be leaving after 30 minutes). After a quick bathroom break I went next door for the spin class. ANOTHER painful reminder… I need to loose some weight on get back in shape! I was sweating instantly (didn’t help they had the air conditioning off that morning), and I could not keep up with the class. The instructor/psycho told us to stay at 120 rpm’s for most of the fast portions…. at my (almost falling of the bike trying my very hardest) fastest, my best rpm was 110! They went up to 140! I’m not sure a human’s legs were meant to move that fast. The “out of the saddle” portion killed me too. I had worn soft running shoes which just don’t give enough support for standing on the peddles. Plus I was just tired and slow. At the end, the instructor/psycho gave me props (in front of the class) for surviving the class. Apparently some people quit, but she was impressed that I kept peddling even when I couldn’t keep up. I guess that’s one positive thing. To be honest, the whole ordeal had me feeling sorry for myself. Both classes have you in front of mirrors. I really hate what I’ve done to myself. All this weight I’ve gained is like a prison. It holds me down. I can’t enjoy the exercise like I want to because it really doesn’t feel good. I do feel better after, but still… I’m “that girl” that others feel sorry for. But at least I’m there exercising and changing myself instead of hiding at home. Things will get better with time. Just wish it would hurry up!

For lunch I had a friend come visit. We used to work together, and are both better off after leaving that place. She brought a huge picnic style lunch and some flowers for me. I am so lucky to have such sweet friends! My day had gotten much better after my disappointing experience at the gym, but it wasn’t over yet. Yancy & I went for a double date with Mike & Stephanie. We had dinner at a little sandwich shop and then saw the “Avengers” movie. It had some great action scenes and was funny (for a super hero movie)! I almost want to see it again… that’s a high recommendation from me. 🙂

Today I started my new job! They had a welcome sign and some flowers for me at my new cubicle. How sweet is that?!? It was a slow day because I don’t have access yet to the computer system. But my first big project was creating a poster board with pictures and art for an event this weekend. Then I did some paperwork and copies for the same event. This job will be lots of paperwork. But I’m kinda liking that. I like to organize things and I like to complete projects. I’m thinking my postion will probably be very project oriented, and there will be some variety in what I do. So should keep me busy and the hours will pass quickly. My hours will be Tues/Wed/Thursdays, 9am-2:30pm with a 30 minute lunch. That gives me a lot of free time!

This evening was our first run practice with the team. I didn’t exactly enjoy the run, but definitely feel better after. My shins were hurting. That’s not typical for me and I’m thinking it has to do with the spin class yesterday, especially wearing the wrong shoes on the bike. The weather was gorgeous! I think this season is going to be the best! Most of my previous triathlons were earlier in the year so I trained during the winter. And last summer we didn’t get a lot of sun. This year has been especially beautiful. Warm sunny days and cool nights. Bright green shades on all the plants & trees, and blooming flowers wherever you look. I can feel my asthma a little bit when running, but it’s not been bad enough to use the inhaler. Hopefully it will get better as my fitness improves and Spring turns into Summer.

Well, that pretty much wraps up my week. Here’s a few pictures. Check out my experimental art in the kitchen! I put removable contact paper all over the place. 🙂

Easy weekend

It’s been a wonderful weekend! The sunny weather really helps. Seattle is SOOOO beautiful on days like this! Yesterday morning was the kick-off party for Team ‘n Training. We’re so excited for another fun season of triathlon training and raising money for a good cause. Yancy and I went out last night for an amazing dinner at the local Greek restaurant. Great date place! And a good walk. I am really loving this neighborhood! The sacrifices we’ve made to live in Seattle seem insignificant. There are flowers and beautiful yards/homes all around. The views are amazing when you drive or walk anywhere. It’s fun to see so many people out walking in the neighborhood with their pets or friends or kids. Our new home, as small and old fashioned as it is still has tons of charm. Today we get to do housework and laundry(washer is temporarily down) and then walk at GreenLake tonight with a friend. Maybe next weekend we’ll go check out the zoo. I am such a lucky girl!

I’m also going to attempt some weeding and yard work today. I have A TON to learn! There’s a particular plant I’ve been looking at and can’t tell if it’s a flower or weed. It does look suspiciously like a dandelion, but definitely different. Maybe I’ll leave it alone for a while and see if any flowers pop up. Wish me luck! 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day

I forgot that my mom was working today and so didn’t get to tell her Happy Mother’s day in person.  😦  But I did get to talk to my favorite grandma ever!

I’d just like say thank you to all the amazing moms in my life. The world is a better place because of you! You inspire, comfort, and nurture your children and others. You are loved and appreciated, even if we don’t say it enough. Have a great day of celebration because you deserve it!

Count down

It’s less than 2 months from my 30th birthday! I don’t think it’s possible to fit into the red dress I bought for myself, but I’m still going to use it as my goal. Today I signed up to do Weight Watchers online (have a friend doing it too) and joined a gym. We’ll be using LA Fitness because it’s the best option near by with a pool and decent parking. I also like that they are age 17 and up only, so we won’t be sharing the pool with splashy, screaming, pissing kids.   😛

I’m trying to talk Yancy into doing WW with me too. But it’s not the best program for athletes. All things considered though, it’s a great tool to track your food/weight and draw your attention to areas you can improve. We’re both really excited for triathlon season to finally start TOMORROW. We’re doing 2 olympic distance triathlons this summer. And maybe Yancy will do a marathon so we can get the “26.2” sticker for our car. 🙂

The sun is out this week and I’m totally overcome with Spring Fever. Grinning all day and feeling very enthusiastic. 😀 Good times ahead!!!
