Ouch

My car insurance went up $294 for the next 6 month billing cycle! I’m thinking this may have to do with the two speeding tickets I got in the Spring……

😦

Catch up

I’ve got to send a shout out to the world’s coolest grandma! She checks my blog all the time and asks me what’s up if I haven’t been posting. 🙂 All is well with me, but sometimes my life is just too boring to post about. It’s been a mostly quiet week since returning from a fun Thanksgiving trip. Yancy had come down with a cold so we’ve been pretty low key. He seems pretty much back to normal now though and we’re really looking forward to our exercise class this weekend. Not sure if I mentioned in a previous post, but I’m now receiving unemployment. I’m going back to school to train for a new career and hoping that I can stay on unemployment during that time. I’ve got to say though that they make it so hard (even demoralizing) to be on unemployment that I question if it’s even worth my trouble. I’ll give it a few more weeks and then make a decision.

Thanksgiving was really nice. We were sad not to make our annual trip to Pullman (but decided to pass this year so we don’t get exposed to mono by a cousin). Instead we went to my grandparents home in Omak, WA. I could tell Grandma was a little tired (her last chemo treatment had been only 4 days earlier) but she was a wonderful host and put out a great feast. And Grandpa was a good sport with all my terrible jokes about putting his pet bird out of commission. We had a second Thanksgiving meal the very next night at Yancy’s dad’s house. It was really laid back and I had fun talking with some of Gene’s friends.

On Monday I took a beautiful walk around GreenLake with my friend Stephanie and her baby girl (in a stroller this time). Oh man, it was such a beautiful day! On Tuesday evening I made a giant batch of chicken/veggie stew and we had our upstairs neighbors down to share it with us. That night I also made stuffed apples for desert (granny smith apples with pecans, craisins, spices, and agave nectar), YUM! Today I made stuffed chicken with feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil & garlic and served it with an Italian salad (from a Safeway salad kit). Here’s a few pictures:

Home sweet home

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’ll post a couple pictures and write about my last week soon (hopefully tomorrow), just wanted to pop online to let everyone know I’m still here.  😛

Photo/Video Projects for TNT

These are the photos I took of our triathlon team during the training season. Many of them are low quality since my iPhone isn’t great in certain lighting, but fun to look at for good memories. FYI, this is 6 minutes long so will take some time to download on slower connections. TNT 2012 San Diego Triathlon (slide show)

Here’s the YouTube video I made & posted last week.   TNT 2012 San Diego Triathlon (“movie trailer”)  It’s pretty short, and again, not the best quality, but a fun memoir of our event.

Getting back into it

I’ve spent some time this week getting into projects I’ve been procrastinating for some time. Now that I’m actually doing it, I wonder why I waited so long. The video and photo editing features on my Mac are so easy to use. The help menus & tutorials have made what seemed impossible seem easy. And the pre-made templates make my work look professional… even though it’s basically just cut & paste for me! This is so fun!! I did the video last week and today put together two beautiful slideshows (will put up links in another post). I have ideas for a few more fun projects to come.

Yesterday my friend Jessi came over with her scrapbook supplies and we looked over everything and I got some motivation there too. I pulled out the really neat scrapbook my mom made for me and reminisced about old memories. Yancy pulled out his photo-books too. I’m feeling really close to friends and family. Looking back through all those pictures reminds me of how many loving people I have in my life. 🙂

In the evening another friend came over for dinner. We visited for hours and even looked at a bunch of pictures. It was a really pleasant day… other than some serious frustration with applying for jobs (which I am required to do for unemployment)… but I can’t even go into that cause it’ll get me pissed off again. I baked yams and a stuffed turkey breast from Trader Joes with a side of green beans. Yum!

Today the weather is just plain miserable. It’s so nice to stay inside a cozy house and drink coffee. Yancy’s been playing a game on the Playstation and I’ve been playing on my computer. Tomorrow morning we have our group exercise class, then the Sounders game in the evening. Yet another fantastic weekend!  🙂

Broken record

I wanted to title this post “Another great weekend!” But I’ve used that title a lot.  🙂  Still, it was a good one! Yancy’s dad (Gene) came over on Friday and spent the whole weekend with us. On Friday night we had (thanks to Yancy for braving the cold and dark) watched a cool movie. On Saturday morning we went to Alki Beach for some coffee and a little walk on the waterfront. We visited the house & park in West Seattle where Gene had great childhood memories. We went out for lunch at the Belltown Pub (thanks to Mom for the certificate). The food was amazing and the people watching was intense. There was a large group of people in costumes. Apparently it’s some club that does this regularly and this weekend’s theme was 90’s sitcom characters. Pretty funny.

We relaxed at home for a little while and watched another cool movie (called The 13th Floor) and then rushed over to the Phinney Neighborhood Association beer tasting. It was crowded and hot, but FUN. The guys had lots of drinks and I was “DD.” I had a great time visiting with some of our friends. After the beer tasting finished some of us went out for pizza. The food and chilly walk helped sober the guys up.

On Sunday morning we drove down to Olympia to spend the day with more family (Gene’s sister, nephew and his family). We had a great time sitting around talking and eating yummy food… we’re talking homemade cookies, steak, baked potatoes, and shrimp! Tracie took me for a spin in their fancy sports car. Gene took it out for a test drive too. We watched a funny movie and the disappointing second half of the Sounders game. One thing that makes me smile is how comfortable we are with this family, even though we rarely get to visit. There’s a welcoming atmosphere of love that you can feel. I am so blessed to be a part of this family!

On Monday morning Yancy had to go back to work and Gene had an appointment, so it was a pretty quiet day (I got to do housework, yippee). But for dinner we went to visit our cousins in Queen Anne. They served a yummy Chinese salad and of course, there was lots of wine. It was another really enjoyable evening spent with family! Gene has gone home now and the house seems so quiet. I did get a project done today that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. We upgraded my computer before I could download all the video. But after using a template in iMoive (Macs rock!) it was pretty much cut & paste. Here’s the link: TNT San Diego Triathlon so you can check it out. Not the best quality, and not exactly what I had envisioned, but it was my first project and I’m pretty happy with it.  🙂  And of course, I have a few pictures from this weekend:

Happy Friday! (PICTURES)

I got a surprisingly good night’s rest (considering how stressed I am about all the unemployment paperwork). I have to say that I’m really loving the new light therapy alarm! Its light slowly gets brighter in the half hour before the alarm goes off, and instead of an obnoxious beep, it plays the sounds of birds twittering. Yancy is getting out of bed before it even sounds!! He usually hits the snooze button several times on his iPhone alarm and still needs major prodding to get up. Now I’m the one lazing in bed until the birds wake me up.  🙂  A much more pleasant way to wake up on these cold, dark mornings!

Last night’s dinner was tasty, but Yancy said it was spicy. The game was intense, but we WON!!! 1-0 with one of the most talented goals/assists I’ve seen in a while. I was on the edge of the couch shouting at the tv several times during the game. The next big game is on Sunday. Go Sounders!!! 🙂

Today I am going to work on a bunch of paperwork and straightening up my desk as well as a few chores around the house, but otherwise taking it pretty easy and looking forward to having company. I think we’ll be BBQ’ing shish-ka-bobs for dinner.

Here’s a few pictures from the last week:
