Enjoying the weekend in my new home!

This is the first chance I’ve had to sit down at my computer since last week. As you can tell by the post title, everything worked out and we’re in our new home. After the mad rush to sign papers and close on the new home, they were able to get us keys before the movers even arrived to load our belongings. The whole move took about 4.5 hours, and there was some heavy rains at times, but it wasn’t really as bad as it could have been. My awesome mom showed up to help just before the movers arrived. We were all up late on Thursday unpacking essentials (after going out for dinner). We started Friday morning off in high style with belgium waffles, eggs, and sausage, and and of course coffee. 🙂 The waffle maker and all the fixings came in a wonderful gift basket from our real estate agent. I have to say that everyone has been so helpful and understanding during this stressful time, and they all worked together to get us moved on schedule even though the bank had us closing late.

My mom and I went back to the old house and gave it a THOROUGH SCRUBBING. Well, my mom really did all the scrubbing… I helped a little. The house is cleaner than when we moved in! Here’s hoping we might get back some of our deposit, even after breaking the lease.

After a busy morning of slaving away, I took my mom out for her first pedicure. We needed some pampering and I think it’s safe to say that she loved the experience. I keep laughing because while picking our polish colors we accidentally chose the exact same color as each other. Out of the huge selection of choices, and without discussing it. Too funny!  🙂

We’ve actually made huge progress in unpacking. I’m hoping that we might even have all the boxes empty today. It would be great to return them and then take my time getting the rest of the house to my liking over the next week. Mom and I should even have time for a little side project today: refinishing my very old coffee table. Should be fun. And don’t worry, we’ll do it outside and I won’t be sniffing any fumes!  😛

TTFN, I’ve got another busy day ahead.   🙂

Signing is done!

We finally signed our closing papers tonight… at 8:30PM. We just need to wire our funds first thing in the morning and then the escrow/closing folks need to work their magic. It should come together just in time to get the keys so the movers can unload our belongings. Phew! I can’t really explain what the hold up was… except that FHA loans are ridiculous. All people involved are working really hard to get us closed tomorrow. I’m thankful that so many people have been understanding and willing to do what they can to speed things up.

Can’t wait to spend the first night in my new home!!!   :O)

Packing and signing

So… we didn’t sign our closing papers yesterday. Should be today, but we still haven’t been contacted with an appointment time. I’m genuinely freaking out now! This means that even if we get an appointment to sign this morning, we probably won’t get the house keys until early tomorrow afternoon, and possibly as late as 5pm…. And our movers cannot be rescheduled. I was able to get them to arrive in the afternoon, but it’s still up in the air if I’ll have the keys in time. Not sure how all this is going to work out, but we’ll make it happen. In good faith, we’ll finish up the packing and be ready to go tomorrow.

The good news from yesterday is that the landlord has “tentatively” rented this place out, which means we shouldn’t have to pay rent for September. But this also ads more stress on getting moved out. Sheesh! Too much stress. I’m looking forward to getting all this behind me!

Wish us luck, say a prayer, send positive vibes… whatever you do… just need to get a call asap to go sign papers and get the ball rolling.

Well, this is partially our fault for scheduling the move day so close to the closing day… We are partially packed and ready for the movers to arrive on Thursday. Today is Tuesday, and we still haven’t signed the papers and received the house keys (and don’t even have an appointment scheduled). This last minute waiting is stressful. The banker told us that we are still scheduled to close on time, but I can’t help being nervous.

Today marks “17 weeks” of my pregnancy. Only 3 more weeks until the halfway point and the big ultrasound to examine our baby. Since this is my first baby, I wasn’t expecting to feel movements for another week or two, but I’ve already felt some! They started several days ago, but I thought it was just my imagination. Then on Saturday I was laying down to rest after a bunch of packing and cleaning and I definitely felt the baby moving around. As soon I started talking it stopped. This is pretty exciting. I can’t wait to see the baby on ultrasound and hopefully find out its gender.

My mom told me stories about when she was pregnant with me and I would get hiccups. I’m really looking forward to having that experience. 🙂

I really miss my grandma. It would have been fun to call her on the phone and tell her all about my experiences.

Wrapping up

Today and tomorrow are the last days of my internship. I’m really looking froward to wrapping up this chapter and getting back to the job search next week (after moving). It’s been a really fun summer working with kids and teens at skateboarding parks as well as participating in the board of a non-profit. Skate Like A Girl is doing some really cool work in this community! I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process and met many wonderful parents. One mom even gave me a baby stroller!

1 week

If all goes according to plan, we should be getting the keys to our new home a week from today… and moving the next day. Playing it a little close… no stress = no fun.   😛
